Completion of Information Systems!

Aim: Use IT tools to generate information that is suitable, accurate and relevant for a business decision-making process.

Objectives:
*Look at the criteria for A3T2.
*Use suitable IT tools and take screenshots.
*Evaluate different information display methods.
*Use Excel to help make a business decision.
*Write a report that demonstrates suitable, accurate and relevant information from what you have processed.
*Proofread your work and submit.

Welcome back, reader.

The starter for today was to look at how we can make a good choice. I discussed this with Jordan and we both concluded that we must analyse the current situation and align the facts together to create a decision. Adam then handed out different kinds of graphs out and we had to annotate around the positives, negatives, what was persuasive and whether or not it is understandable. The different graphs were pictogram, scatter graph, bar charts and pie charts etc. Each graphs have its own advantages and this activity was to help being awareness that different graphs have different uses.

Next, Adam walked us through the basic features and functions of Microsoft Excel. I recall using this in GCSE Year 10/11 but have forgotten some parts. This refreshed my mind slightly and I used this opportunity to take screenshots for my work later on. This links with U03_A3T2 where I had to explain the different features and functions that are used to make data more valid, useful and accurate. For instance, the sort and filter tool, the hide feature and COUNTIF function etc. A strength was being able to understand the functions and apply it.

Next, we then mind mapped what should be inside of a report. This report is essentially an expansion of the task above but in more detail. Very difficult and sad to say, but the same is for Distinction but instead we had to justify our words of why and how a business makes a decision from data/information. I found U03_A3T2 and T3 to be difficult and challenging, but nonetheless Adam gave me enough encouragement and support to finish.

Reflecting on today, I have managed to complete the entire unit of U03 - Information Systems. I am pleased with myself and this means I have a week dedicated to doing art and such. In addition to this, Catherine did speak to me and a few other peers about the cooking course taking place this coming Wednesday! I also looked at the learner forums issues and planned out what I will be doing, which is to create an invitation design sheet. As a class we also discussed the end of year activity which is paint balling.

Business Decision-Making Process + Maths Mock!

*Aim: Investigate how information can be suitable, accurate and relevant for a business decision-making process.

Objectives:
*Collaboratively write a definition for key words for A3.
*Complete the quiz.
*Examine given data and use it to support a business decision-making process.
*Use screenshots to evidence key questions from information.
*Proofread your work and submit.

Hello!

Over my independent study time for Tuesday and Wednesday, I managed to achieve a fair amount. I revised for today's Maths mock in preparation for next week and completed my Maths resubmission work for U26_A4T1, T2 and T3.

Our starter today was to look at how we can improve our definitions for terminologies. We have learnt that it is imperative we do not re-use the actual keyword within the definition. This linked with the next task which was to identify the definitions of: relevant, accurate and suitable. These words are apart of U03_A3T1 and I believe this was a decent starter. A strength was being able to understand everything thus far.

Afterwards, we had a quick Kahoot quiz made by Adam. Matthew T was supposed to make the quiz but he was busy with a lot of English work. The quiz was about the current unit overall (U03). I came second, behind Adam M. The next person to make the quiz is Alex W - though he did not lose, he was specifically chosen.

Everyone then worked on U03_A3T1. I managed to start and complete this task. The task was about how relevant, accurate and suitable data can help a business make an informed decision. In addition to this, I also wrote about what data makes it unsuitable and two additional questions suggestions for improvement. I used the SurveyMonkey data that Adam gathered earlier.

With little to no outstanding work, I submitted to Emily after checking a comment on the track changes and then went through the actual methods of multiplying and dividing binary number systems in preparation for the Mock later. An inspiration is Emily because she helped me identify my improvements.

After lunch, Emily recapped everything we need to know about conversion from binary to decimal to octal to hexidecimal. We even practised on each section for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. A strength was being able to get a lot correct and that is due to my revision and Emily's support.

As of now, I am updated in every aspect. I will await for tomorrow for new work! I'll be doing art.

(Management) Information Systems + Productive Easy Day!

Aim: Investigate the information and management of information systems used by Amazon

Objectives:
*Consider the information systems Amazon uses.
*Watch the videos and identify how information systems and management of information systems are used.
*Write a brief report explaining how management of information systems can be used.
*Proofread your work and submit.

Another Monday,

This morning our starter was to discuss what information overload is. Me and Jordan concluded that when there is too much information for the system to process, that is when it is overloaded. What you can do to counter it is to increase storage space or upgrade the processing ability. We also discussed what an MIS (management information system) is and have concluded that it is a complex system which inputs prior data generated by other information systems into a visual report for decision making.

Today is all about getting U03_A2T3 and any outstanding work done. Adam showed us two different videos about Amazon and how it uses information systems to manage its workload. This was interesting because I could apply it to my assignment and write in more detail. I also used the book and Internet research for additional help. After completing U03_A2T3, I submitted this and worked on anything I did not understand for Maths. A strength of today was to be able to work efficiently throughout the time given.

Later on, Emily came up to help me with the comments I was stuck on for the resubmission of U26_A4T1, T2 and T3. I found her help to be really effective. A weakness is not being as independent as I wanted but I am slowly taking this as a learning curve. Emily helped me a lot on the Maths and now I understand exactly what I need to do. I will also revise and prepare for the mock test for conversion of hexadecimal, denary, binary and octal.

I also worked on U03_A2T2 and T3 resubmissions right after submitting, which was also a good accomplishment. In addition to this, Adam did explain to me what I need to do for U03_A3T1 but I will most likely start when I am finished with other outstanding work. Today has been very successful.

Features and Functions of Information Systems!

Aim: Describe the features and functions of information systems

Objectives:
*Create mind maps to help you recall information for.
*Assignment two task two.
*Discuss the important aspects of features and functions of information systems.
*Write assignment two task two.
*Proofread assignment work.
*Research an effective diagram to describe the information system loop and justify why this is.

Hello!

In the first class, we firstly had an hour to work on our Maths resubmissions. For me, I worked on my U26_A4T1, T2 and T3 resubmissions where I make changes along with the comments. After an hour later, I have made all the changes I could and labelled the ones I couldn't. I will be asking Emily about these comments sometime later. I have found this study hour very effective because it enabled most of us to just sit and crack on. I would love more of this in the future when and if we have a lot of outstanding work.

Afterwards, Adam recapped with us on U03_A2T2 features and functions of information by giving us mind map templates then giving us time to discuss as a class to put forth a collaboration of useful information for our assignments. Although many other peers did not particularly enjoy it, I personally did because I got to hear other people's thoughts about it and expand it upon my current knowledge. The mind maps were on about the data, people, hardware, software and telecommunications of the features of information systems.

After working on the above for a while, Adam then wanted to do another activity to help us learn the functions of information systems. This is because yesterday the quizzes did not really help. A lot of the classmates did not participate in this therefore myself, Jordan and Adam sat around together and discussed the different functions which are input, storage, processing, output, control and feedback loops and closed and open systems. I found this very useful and as a strength because we were very focused as a small group. I wish to do more of this because it makes everyone concentrate harder.

We also learnt the last part of the assignment which was to find an effective diagram on the information system loop and justified why so.. I also participated in Adam's survey where he asked for feedback about us and the current unit "Information Systems". By the end of the day, I will have submitted and completed the second assignment. My inspiration came from the book and the activity we did when Adam sat around with us.

Over the weekends, I am planning to do more art. Just good old art.

Information Systems and Binary Addiction/Subtraction!

Aim: Describe the features and functions of information systems

Objectives from Adam:
*Consider how Tesco ClubCard was created and what this means for Information Systems.
*Create a quiz about a feature or a function of information systems.
*Describe features of information systems.
*Describe functions of information systems.
*Research an effective diagram to describe the information system loop and justify why this is.

Over the weekends, I have spent my time doing a lot of art in my independent study time. Coming into college, we firstly had a starter activity where we looked at the reason behind Tesco clubcards. They use information system and this was a good read.

We then had the quiz Ben made. It was also about information system and about its uses. At the end I got 9/10 with Brandon and Euan. We both decided to let Euan have the dual monitor again. Matthew got the lowest again and has to do the quiz for next week.

Adam then covered U03_A2T2 in a different way. Instead, we were each assigned a term and had to make a quiz so we can learn in a different method. In my opinion, it didn't teach me anything, despite it was fun. Next time, I would rather stick to presentations or mind maps. I will be reading more to learn what I don't understand. Before lunch, I finished up by creating the document.

Objectives from Emily:
*Be able to convert between denary and octal.
*Be able to calculate addition and subtractions sum directly in binary.
*Be able to check sums calculated in binary by conversion method.
*Calculate addition and subtraction in octal and hexadecimal.
*Calculate multiplications and divisions in different number systems.

Before the lesson started, I downloaded my U26_A4 resubmission and she briefly asked me on my opinion in regards to how her marking is. I gave her some feedback and have decided to work on it sometime and ask her anything I am stuck on.

We then re-covered what we learnt last week (octal, hexademical, denary and binary) and also wrote some new facts on the mind maps we created last week too. I wrote a use for denary which is money and measurements. For the rest of the day, Emily taught us to add and subtract and binary. Then I practised upon this. It was challenging but I am starting to get it with practise.

My improvements and goals is to practice for next week's mock, get U26_A4 resubmission done ASAP and begin/complete U03_A2T2.

Drawing!

Aim: Complete A1.

Objectives:
*Reflect about what you need to achieve for U03A1.
*Listen to peers and discuss criteria for A1.
*Complete A1, proof read and submit.

Hello!

This morning we reflected on things we knew. I can recall most of what we learnt, and only needed help upon some comments on my resubmission.

Today, the majority of the class was working on assignments that I have already completed. Due to this, Adam decided to give everyone more time and move on to U03_A2T2 on Thursday. I completed a couple of resubmissions and then did art for the entire day.

I drew fictional character designs of a robot, named Moon Blade and my own version of a Kaiju Monster.

Legal, Ethical and Operational Issues to Business Information!

Aim: Explain legal, ethical and operational issues that relate to business information.

Objectives:
*Define the terms legal and ethical.
*Research a given issue.
*Create a presentation about the topic.
*Present information about legal, ethical or operational issues.
*Apply considerations for a gaming business.

Konbanwa.

The starter today was a discussion of what legal and ethical is. Due to learning this in the past, I was familiar with these words. Legal is in relation to law and ethical is about moral dilemma. We looked at this because today would be focusing on these terms and the issues around it. Before the first lesson began, I quickly submitted U03_A1T2 so Adam could mark this, which was about my Data Flow Diagram.

The class was once again split into different pairs and was assigned to either one legal issue, one ethical issue or one operational issue for information systems. I was paired with Ed (unfortunately he was not here), and was tasked to create a presentation about it. Using personal knowledge from GCSE and the Internet, I created a power-point around Data Protection Art 1998 and practised my pitch. Later onwards, everyone presented their work and I was first. A strength of today was being able to be confident in my pitch and give a clear voice whilst looking at my audience. Whilst I listened to other presentations, I made notes.

With the notes made, I started and completed U03_A2T1, eventually submitting it. Furthermore, Adam also covered one ethical issue which is whistle blowing - this was very interesting because he used a real life case study, which you can read here. I was so into it, I wasn't paying attention but I now understand what it is.

For the last hour of the day, I proceeded to work on U03_A1T3. In this task, I wrote in detail about how business data could be improved. I used the Data Flow Diagram to assist my context and explanations. I also worked on my U03_A1T1 resubmission where I had some errors. If I do not finish by today, I will finish over independent study time.

Overall, today has been a really productive day. Due to being busy at home, I am happy that I am completing work within college periods. I hope to be fully refreshed for Monday.

Information Systems!

Aim: Consider different aspects of a data flow chart and create your own.

Objectives:
*Discuss what a data flow chart is and decide on a definition.
*Analyse different aspects of data flow charts.
*Create a data flow chart.

Aim: Discuss how business data could be improved and write a report.

Objectives:
*Look at the criteria for D1.
*Discuss what the report needs to include .
*Write a report about how businesses can generally improve their business information linking it to clear examples.

Hello!

Over the independent study days, I proposed an email in regards to Learner Forums to Adam - which will be discussed today about the end of academic year events. I also created a creative and fun quiz.

Upon coming into college, we had to make a list of information systems in regards to qualitative and quantitative examples. This was quite tricky, but eventually I got the hang of it. Information Systems is in other words, how information are stored e.g. databases via quantitative statistics.

We then had the quiz I made. It was quite funny as I inserted a laughing video and random questions. However, in all fairness it had some difficult and challenging questions. I thought it was a great way to start the day.

Moving onwards, we had a class activity where we looked at the figures of data flow charts. The class was split into groups where we had to look at the good points, bad points, information and design of it. I was grouped with Brandon and Adam and covered the bad points. It was interesting and has helped my work later on, this was a strength. With this, Adam covered with us U03_A1T2 where we had to create a data flow chart in regards to the functional areas we learnt previously and internal/external sources of company application.

In addition to this, I also managed to start U03_A1T3 which is the distinction. This task focuses on how information can be improved. Since the last half of the day will be spent with Emily in Maths, I have planned to complete this tomorrow.

Today has been a very productive day, and a strength was being able to focus on all the workload whilst being able to have fun.

Objectives for Emily: *Begin assingment 3.
*Recognise different number systems.
*Use powers/ place values.
*Confidently convert between binary and decimal.
*Be able to convert decimal to octal and hexadecimal.

For Emily's lesson, we covered different number systems such as Decimal, Hexadecimal, Binary and Octal. At the beginning we had a class activity where we had to brainstorm a mind map. For me, I was with Jordan and Tom S doing Decimal. At the start we didn't know much but by the end of the day I understand the conversion between it. It was challenging, yet fun. A strength was to be able to understand. My goal is to practice it for the upcoming test in order to achieve the criteria for the U26_A3T1.

Back from Easter - Functional Day!

Aim: Consider functional areas for information, how companies use information sources and write about them with specific examples.

Objectives:
*Identify different business areas that use information.
*Consider different types of information.
*Discuss how areas would use certain information.
*Apply the required terms to assignment example.

Aim: Identify four different purposes for information and describe key aspects.

Objectives:
*Reflect on the purpose of information.
*Complete the matching activity about purposes of information.
*Apply the required terms to assignment examples.
*Proofread and submit U03A1.

Hello!

Over the Easter holidays, I have been proactive in general for my work and lifestyle. Whilst maintaining the gym and doing my art, I have accomplished all of my outstanding work, planned Learner Forums furthermore and sorted my Student Finance England paperwork.

Coming back into college, we firstly had a recap about the work we've done. We instantly moved onto discussing about functional areas (department) where information is generated in a business. I have learnt about the different departments and what they do in general that functions a company. I grouped up with Jordan, Matthew and Ben and laid out where each department will be with reasoning. We then presented this and continued our U03_A1T1.

Additionally, I also handed in the cooking course slip as I am interested in learning to cook in regards to the near future university life. I also completed the student feedback survey for Spring term - one of the questions was questioning whether I enjoy the units or not and it is safe to say that I do.

Furthermore, eventually Adam also covered the last parts of U03_A1T1 with us: Purpose of information and company based sources (external and internal). Through this I have learnt more about industry processes and standards and why. A strength of today was being able to complete all my work and understand it to an enjoyable experience. In the end I have submitted my work.

Before going home, I sorted out some information for the upcoming Learner Forums.
